About Medical Course (MBBS & MD/MS)

Medical education in India includes a wide range of courses at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. In India, the two most popular medical curricula are MBBS and MD/MS.

The MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery) degree programme lasts five and a half years. The programme consists of four and a half years of academic study and one year of mandatory internship. Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Pharmacology, Pathology, Microbiology, and Forensic Medicine are among the subjects covered in the program.

Students who have completed their MBBS can pursue postgraduate medical courses such as MD (Doctor of Medicine) and MS (Master of Surgery). The MD programme is a three-year postgraduate programme that focuses on clinical, non-surgical fields of medicine, whereas the MS programme focuses on surgical fields of medicine.

Paediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Dermatology, Radiology, Anesthesiology, Orthopaedics, Ophthalmology, and many other specialisations are available in MD and MS programmes.

Students interested in pursuing MBBS and MD/MS programmes in India must pass the NEET (National Eligibility Cumulative Entrance Test) exam, which is administered by the National Testing Agency (NTA). The exam is required for admission to all medical schools in the country.

Counselling Process

Registration

The registration process for Karnataka NEET counselling involves the following steps:

  • Step 1: Visit the official website of Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) at kea.kar.nic.in.
  • Step 2: Click on the link ‘UG NEET Online Counselling’.
  • Step 3: Click on ‘New Registration’.
  • Step 4: Fill in the required details such as name, date of birth, gender, email ID, mobile number, etc. and create a login ID and password.
  • Step 5: Upload the necessary documents such as NEET scorecard, 10th and 12th mark sheets, category certificate (if applicable), domicile certificate, Aadhaar card, and passport-size photographs.
  • Step 6: Pay the counselling fee through the available online payment modes.
  • Step 7: Submit the registration form.

After successful registration, candidates can log in to the website and proceed with the further steps of the counselling process such as document verification, option entry, seat allotment, confirmation of seat allotment, and reporting to the college.

Choice Filling

  • Candidates are able to enter their choices only after the government has announced the seat matrix. The details of the available seats by college, course, and category are published on the KEA website at http://kea.kar.nic.in. which can be downloaded and printed.
  • The candidate has to first select the discipline in the option entry form.
  • After the selection of a Medical discipline, the entry form displays a list of Medical colleges and, in the case of a Dental discipline, a list of Dental colleges.
  • There is no restriction on the number of options that can be entered. A candidate may enter as many options as he or she wishes to exercise based on his or her own priority. Candidates are advised to enter a greater number of options to avoid disappointment if they do not secure a seat.
  • The allotment will not proceed to the next rank candidate until the list of your options has been thoroughly searched for the availability of a seat.

Seat Allotment

The seat matrix notified by the government for each discipline is used for allotment seats and it is hosted on the KEA website for the candidates’ and parents’ information.

Seats are allocated in two rounds, with each round consisting of three phases and each phase consisting of a number of iterations.

1. The first round.

2. Round Two.

(Note: If any seats remain vacant after the second round, a mop round for all categories of seats may be held, with only candidates who were not assigned a seat in the previous two rounds eligible to participate.)

List of allotted seats

The Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) publishes a list of candidates who have been assigned a seat in the Karnataka NEET counselling. These seat allotment lists are generated based on a candidate’s merit and the choices filled out by him/her.

Reporting to the Allotted College

Candidates should report to the allotted college to complete the admission formalities. At the time of reporting to the allotted college, candidates must submit the original copy of the mandatory documents.
