Medical College Baroda Medical College Baroda is a prestigious academic institute under the auspices of the Department of Health and Family Welfare, Government of Gujarat, located in Vadodara (formerly known as Baroda), one of Gujarat state’s major cities in Western India. Its origins can be traced back to the pre-independence period. The former ruler of Baroda, Sir Pratapsingh Gaekwad, laid the foundation stone for the college in 1946, and it began operations in June 1949 with a class of 40 students. Sir Sayajirao General Hospital, a tertiary care center with 1500 beds, is attached to the college. Its origins can be traced back to the Countess of Duffer in hospital, which was founded in 1865. The College and Hospital are housed on a 36-acre campus in Central Baroda, one kilometer from the Vadodara Railway and Bus Stations and three kilometers from the Vadodara Airport. It serves as the Faculty of Medicine at the prestigious Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, and is in charge of awarding degrees to students.

Since its inception, the college has come a long way in providing quality medical education recognized by the Medical Council of India to students from Gujarat and other states who are admitted on an all India quota in both undergraduate (M.B.B.S) and postgraduate (M.D/M.S) medical courses. It also has extensive research and patient care facilities. This college’s pre-clinical and pre-clinical departments assist all clinical departments in treating virtually all medical conditions. The Government Physiotherapy College and the Government Nursing College are also located on the Medical College campus and train students for B.Sc (Physiotherapy) and B.Sc (Nursing) courses, respectively. Eminent alumni from this college are practising successfully all over India and abroad.
