King George Medical University, Lucknow (KGMU) was established in 1905 with the goal of providing medical services more than 20 crore population with outstanding academic, research, and patient care to the people of the states of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, and the neighbouring nation of Nepal.
However, it was only through King George’s initiative that it became operational in 1911. It was converted into a university after the Uttar Pradesh government passed an act on September 16, 2002.
The Medical Council of India (MCI), New Delhi, has approved and recognised King George’s Medical University. The institute was designated as a Institute of National Importance (INI) by the Parliamentary Act. Under the Act of 1956, it was also recognised by the Dental Council of India (DCI) and the University Grants Commission (UGC).
The Government of the United Provinces initially controlled King George’s Medical University. Allahabad University validated the degrees awarded to students who graduated from this university. In 1921, Lucknow University took over the management of the college.
It is India’s largest residential medical university, with faculties including medicine, dentistry, nursing, and paramedical sciences. In 2018, King George Medical University was ranked fifth among medical colleges by the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF).
KGMU has received a ‘A’ rating from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). From May 2017 to May 2022, this certification will be valid. The Government of India’s Ministry of Human Resource Development has shortlisted KGMU as a possible ‘Institute of Eminence.’
The university campus is 7 square kilometres in size and contains over 50 buildings. There are 2105 hostel beds, 550 faculty positions, 700 resident doctors, and 5000 employees in total. Eligibility Criteria
a) Age: The candidate must be 17 years old on or before December 31st of the year of admission.
b) Qualifying exam: Students must have completed 10+2 in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English, with a minimum of 50 percent marks in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology combined. Candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, or Other Backward Classes will receive 40 percent instead of 50 percent in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology combined.
c) Entrance Test: NEET-U.G. (NATIONAL ELIGIBILITY CUM ENTRANCE TEST). Admission will be granted based on the results of the entrance examination.
For PG:
Admission Criteria: All seats are assigned based on the results of the PG-NATIONAL ELIGIBILITY CUM ENTRANCE TEST. (PG-NEET)
The candidate must have completed an MBBS from an MCI-approved medical college.
Admissions are made through the UP State Post Graduate Medical Entrance Examination (UP PGMEE) for 85 percent of the seats and the All India Post Graduate Medical Entrance Examination conducted by DGHS, New Delhi for 15 percent of the seats.
Seats are reserved for scheduled castes/tribes and Other Backward Classes in accordance with UP government regulations.
Admission Process
Candidates for admission must fulfill all of the eligibility requirements outlined in the admission rules.
For UG: Candidates can use their NEET UG Medical Scorecard to apply to colleges for UG admission.
For PG: Candidates seeking admission to MD/MS can apply to the college using their NEET MD/MS Medical Scorecard.
For SS: Admission is made through the ALL INDIA DM/Mch entrance exam (AIDMCHEE), which is held annually in the months of May/June (approximately) on behalf of the UP State Government by KGMU.
The Medical Council of India’s recognition of these courses should be confirmed at the time of admission. Admissions are based on All India competitive examinations administered by the Vice Chancellors in consultation with the Head of the relevant department. The theory paper, practical or clinical examination, and interview comprise the entrance examination. These programmes last three years. The student receives extensive hands-on training in all aspects of the relevant superspeciality. In addition, candidates must work on and submit a thesis or dissertation.
Post MD-PhD: The selection will be made on the basis of a merit list based on the Post M.D.Ph.D. entrance examination-2022. The candidate who has qualified for admission to the Post M.D.-Ph.D. course must pay the prescribed fee on the date specified by the University. Those who do not comply will be denied admission to the course.
Candidates must begin the course within the time frame specified.

NEET Counseling process
Prospectus and schedule for MBBS state quota campaign will be issued by Directorate of Medical Education and Training, Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh after the result of NEET 2023 is declared. Its website is http://www.updgme.in/ and online application form is to be filled at https://upneet.gov.in/. Through this, the first stage counseling, second stage counseling and Mop up round counseling is done
Registration fees for the first and second phases of counseling will be 2000/- for all categories and will be non-refundable. For the Mop up round of counseling, all candidates must register, and registration fees will be 1000/- for all categories.
When registering, students must select the Nodal centre where the entrance formalities must be fulfilled. Choose a Nodal centre near oneself from the list. After completing the registration, the documents verification and security money, demand drafts (DD) must be provided to the Nodal Center.
If an applicant wishes to attend both the Government Medical College and the Private Medical College, he must deposit Rs. 2,00,000/- (Rupees two lakh) as security. Individuals can fill the choice for the first round after paying the Demand Draft (DD) of security fees. It is vital to lock it after filling the choice since it does not have autolock; if you do not lock, no one will consider the choice..
First Round
This counseling is done online, and there is no free first round in Uttar Pradesh. If you are assigned a seat and choose to join, you may do so and be given the option of upgrading in the second round. After receiving a seat allotment in the first round, one must deposit the tuition payments and original papers for the first year in the allotted college for government seats and by visiting the nodal centre for private seats.
Second Round
After the first round of UP, the second round of counseling is held to replace the vacant seats, and the third round of MCC is held to fill the seats transferred to the state. This type of counseling is also available online. You cannot compete in the second round of UP if you joined the seat in the second round of MCC. If you did not register in the first round, the registration price for the second round will be Rs. You can register by paying a deposit of Rs. 2000/-. Candidates who received Security money in the first round may participate in the second round by depositing Security money once more.
The seat from the first round can likewise be improved in the second round. They are not required to deposit Security funds again. If your seat is upgraded in the second round, it will be given to another applicant in the first round. In the second round, you must fulfil the admission formalities for the upgrading seat. If the seat is not upgraded in the second round, the seat from the first round will be retained. However, if the first round seat is re-allocated in the second round, they must complete the admission processes again in the second round, or the admission will be invalidated and that place will be reserved for the Mop Up round counseling.
Third Round
This counseling is done after the second round to replace the vacant seats. Offline counseling is provided. Vehicle candidates will not be present for counseling. Admission is granted on the basis of on-the-spot merit in this case.
Only candidates who were not selected in the first and second rounds are eligible to participate in this round. Those who did not register in the first and second rounds may register again. As described in the first and second rounds, the process of security money and document verification would take place on the spot.
Candidates who registered in the first and second rounds must re-register for the Mop Up round by paying a registration cost of Rs 1000/-; they do not need to re-deposit the security money. If you obtained a place through AIQ 15 %, you will be unable to compete in the UP Mop Up round
