RG Kar Medical College Kolkata is located in Shyambazar, Kolkata, West Bengal, India. In the colonial era, it was established in 1886 to ensure self-sufficiency (Swaraj) in medical education and services.
From 1916 to 2003, it was affiliated with the University of Calcutta, and in 2003, it became affiliated with the West Bengal University of Health Sciences.
On May 12, 1948, the institution was given its current name to honour Dr. Radha Govinda Kar, who conceived of it. Suresh Prasad Sarbadhikari was the institution’s first President, and Kar was its first Secretary. The West Bengal government took control of the college in May 1958.

Eligibility Criteria
a) Age: The candidate must be 17 years old on or before December 31st of the year of admission.
b) Qualifying exam: 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English individually with a minimum of General Category – 50% (Physically Handicapped, PH – 45%) and for OBC/SC/ST – 45% (PH – 40%).
c) Entrance Test: NEET-U.G. (NATIONAL ELIGIBILITY CUM ENTRANCE TEST). Admission will be granted based on the results of the entrance examination.

Admission Criteria: All seats are assigned based on the results of the PG-NATIONAL ELIGIBILITY CUM ENTRANCE TEST. (PG-NEET)

NEET Counseling process
West Bengal Main Computerized Counseling will release the prospectus and schedule for MBBS state quota admission after the NEET 2023 results are released. First Round

Hospital of RG Kar Medical College, Kolkata

This college & hospital changed name many time as the year by the Calcutta School of Medicine, founded in 1886, had no affiliated hospital and operated out of Mayo Hospital. The college was financially supported by Maharaja Radha Kishore Manikya of the Manikya Dynasty, the then-king of Tripura State.
It relocated to its own complex in 1902, which included a school and hospital. It merged with the National College of Physicians and Surgeons of Bengal in 1904 and, after further expansion, was renamed the Belgachia Medical College in 1916.
Carmichael Medical College was named after Thomas Gibson-Carmichael, the Governor of Bengal at the time of the college’s founding in 1916. Later assured as R.G.Kar Medical College & Hospital in 1948.
