Katihar Medical College (KMC) is a medical college located in the city of Katihar, Bihar, India. The Patna-based Al-Karim Educational Trust founded and operates the college.
The Patna-based Al-Karim Educational Trust founded the college in 1987 with the goal of providing specialised medical facilities for the region. Ahmad Ashfaque Karim is the college’s chairman and managing director, as well as the founder and chairman of its parent company, Al-Karim Education Trust. Dr. Ram Bilas Gupta is the college’s principal.

NOTE: If a student obtains a recognised two-year diploma in the same year, the training period for MD/MS courses is two years.
Eligibility Criteria
a) Age: The candidate must be 17 years old on or before December 31st of the year of admission.
b) Qualifying exam: Candidates must have passed a 10+2 or equivalent examination from a recognised Board, Council, or University, and must have passed Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology, and English individually, as well as a minimum of 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology taken together. Candidates must have completed English as a mandatory/core subject.
The minimum qualifying marks for candidates belonging to SC/ST or OBC are 40%, and the minimum qualifying marks for candidates with locomotory disability of lower limbs as defined by the MCI are 45 percent taken together in the qualifying examination.
c) Entrance Test: Candidates must have passed the NEET examination and obtained at least a 50 percentile in the ‘National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test’ for the academic year 2022-23.
However, for candidates belonging to the SC/ST/OBC categories, the minimum mark shall be 40%. The minimum mark for candidates with locomotory disability of the lower limbs as defined by the MCI is the 45th percentile. If the Government of India / MCI modifies the above-mentioned percentile of marks, the revised percentile will apply to the respective categories.
For PG:
Admission Criteria: All seats are assigned based on the results of the PG-NATIONAL ELIGIBILITY CUM ENTRANCE TEST. (PG-NEET). The candidate must have a recognised MBBS degree or equivalent qualifications and must have obtained permanent registration with the Medical Council of India or any of the State Medical Councils within one month of his/her admission, or his/her admission will be cancelled.
Admission Process
The Medical Council of India and the Government of India, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, New Delhi, both recognise the College. As per that, Candidates for admission must fulfill all of the eligibility requirements outlined in the admission rules.
To begin, students must submit their NEET scores.
Students must attend an open counseling session after submitting their NEET scorecard. The NEET score and counseling scores are used to determine who is accepted into college after the counseling process. If chosen, the necessary documents are submitted to UG/PG Admission, Admin Building.
For UG – MBBS:
NEET pass candidates can apply online at bceceboard.bihar.gov.in, the state government’s website. After that, he or she will be eligible to participate in State Government counseling.
For PG – MD/MS:
In the case of a foreign national, the Medical Council of India may grant temporary registration for the duration of the postgraduate training restricted to the medical college/institution to which he/she is admitted for the time being exclusively for postgraduate studies upon payment of the prescribed fee for registration.
Temporary registration shall be granted to such foreign national on the condition that he or she is duly registered as a medical practitioner in the country from which he or she obtained his or her basic medical qualification and that his or her degree is recognised by the corresponding medical council or the concerned authority.
Candidates will be called in order of merit for counseling and verification of original documents and identity through personal appearance. Counseling will take place, and placement will be done on a merit-cum-choice basis. Later changes to the selection will not be permitted. Candidates who arrive late for counseling may be considered, but placement will be based solely on the available vacancies at the time.

NEET Counseling process
Bihar Combined Entrance Competitive Examination Board (BCECEB) will issue a prospectus for MBBS admission 15 days after the NEET 2023 result is announced, and participants must fill out the online application form there.
The registration fee for UR/BC/EBC is Rs.1200/- and Rs.600/- for SC/ST/DQ. The Bihar Combined Entrance Competitive Examination Board (BCECEB) provides admission in this case by conducting first, second, and mop up round counseling.

It is noteworthy that registration and choice filling take place in the first round; registration and choice filling are not permitted in the second round. Then there is a fresh registration for the Mop up round counseling; those who did not register for the first and second rounds can do so again. In the first and second rounds, no security money is deposited.
First Stage Counseling :-
This is an online counseling session, and the first round is not a free exit round. If candidate receive a seat allotment but are dissatisfied with their assigned college and branch, express their desire for an upgrade for the next round in order to download the Provisional Allotment Order. If a candidate does not express a desire for Upgradation for the next round, he or she will not be considered for the next round’s counseling. The name and hand of the Reporting / Nodal Center for Document Verification / Admission will be mentioned in the provisional allotment letter downloaded by the allotted candidate, and the candidate will go to his concerned Reporting / Nodal Center to complete his Document Verification. If any candidates do not complete their Document Verification by the deadline, they will be considered ineligible for the next round, and their allotted seat will be considered void, and they will also be disqualified for further counseling. However, if a candidate does not receive a seat allotment in the first round, they must wait until the next round.
If the candidate has expressed a desire for advancement to the the next round and has completed their Document Verification by visiting the Reporting / Nodal Center, they must submit their original certificate to the concerned reporting / nodal centre. They can enrol or return the Document Verification Slip with their original certificates and the Document Verification already completed with all of their original certificates to the designated Reporting / Nodal Center for enrolment on the next round’s allotted seat. It is required to bring slip.
Second Stage Counseling :-
Following the first round of HRD, the second round of counseling is held to fill the vacant seats, and the seats are transferred to the state following the second round of MCC. It is available online, and seat allocation is based on the selection made in the first round. In this case, the first-round seat can also be upgraded. Participants cannot participate in the second round of India if they have joined the seat in the second round of MCC.
Mop Up Round Counseling :-
This counseling is done following the second round to fill the vacant seats. This is an offline counseling session, so vehicle candidates will not be present. Admission is made on the basis of merit on the spot in this case. Only candidates who were not assigned seats in the first and second rounds are eligible to participate. If a candidate has received admission in another nation, they is ineligible for this Mop Up round of counseling. All candidates must re-register for the mop up round and pay the registration fees. If they are assigned a Government Medical seat in this round, they must have their documents verified on the same day and pay their tuition fees. If candidate want to enrol in a private medical college, they must pay a DD of Rs 12 lakh. If they are assigned a seat in a private medical college, they must have their documents verified on the same day and submit this DD.
Counseling of Stray vacancy round :-
This counseling is done in Bihar after the government’s mop up round of MBBS to fill the vacant seats. These seats are also filled by the counseling authority, but it has been observed that following the Government’s Mop up round of MBBS, the seats are not vacant. Following the Mop up round of MBBS at a Private Medical College, the vacant seats are transferred to the respective college and filled by the college itself.
