BKL Walawalkar Rural Medical College Ratnagiri is located in Sawarda village, approximately 16 kilometres from Chiplun and 290 kilometres from Mumbai on the Mumbai-Goa highway.
S.V.J.C.Trust established a medical college with 100 seats in 2015 in response to a dire need to provide modern medical services to the rural population at their doorstep. Medical students trained at this college are expected to serve the local communities. As a result, the overall quality of health-care services in these communities would improve. Students will have the opportunity to further the research that is already being conducted at B.K.L. Walawalkar Hospital. Thus, the main goals of the Rural Medical College would be to achieve academic growth, provide good doctors in rural areas who would then serve the rural population, stimulate research, and thus achieve overall societal upliftment.
On September 1, 2015, BKL Walawalkar Rural Medical College was inaugurated. Dr. Shekhar Rajderkar, Pro Vice-Chancellor of Maharashtra University of Health Sciences, Nashik, was the inaugural guest.

As a result, there is a significant difference in the cutoff for Government Medical College and Private Medical College at the state level.
Candidates for admission must fulfill all of the eligibility requirements outlined in the admission rules.
To begin, students must submit their NEET scores.
Students must attend an open counseling session after submitting their NEET scorecard. The NEET score and counseling scores are used to determine who is accepted into college after the counseling process. If chosen, the necessary documents are submitted to UG/PG Admission, Admin Building.
For NRI: There is 15% Institutional quota in private colleges, in which NRI or other state candidates can take admission, but seat is allotted to NRI candidates. Its fees are very high, the vehicle has NRI fees.
For UG – MBBS:
- Candidates must apply for and take the NEET UG entrance exam, which is administered by the National Testing Agency (NTA).
- In addition, aspirants must attend the MBBS Counseling process.
- Participation in the counseling process and payment of fees will determine final admission.
For PG – MD/MS:
- Admission to the post graduate courses is through NEET-PG conducted by the National Board of Examinations (NBE).
- The authorities will prepare a merit list for shortlisting candidates.
- In addition, aspirants must participate in the College’s counseling process.
- Final admission will be determined by the marks obtained, participation in the counseling process, and payment of fees.
Note :- Disqualification From Admission

If they do not receive a seat allotment in the first round, he/she will have to wait until the second round.

Hospital of BKL Walawalkar Rural Medical College Ratnagiri
The hospital has a capacity of 500 beds. It is a multispecialty hospital that offers all modern medical services under one roof. All of the operating rooms are air-conditioned and equipped with a laparoscope, image intensifiers, various types of monitors, and ventilators. These operating rooms perform a wide range of procedures, from simple hernia repair to more complex procedures such as knee replacement, spine surgery, and cancer surgery.
The hospital offers super-specialty services in specific areas such as urology, nephrology, oncology, and radiation therapy. Pathology services include histopathology, haematology, microbiology, a blood bank, and a component laboratory.
In Maharashtra’s Konkan region, villages are located at great distances between hills and valleys, and health care is largely inaccessible. This region has insufficient health facilities, illiteracy, poverty, poor health awareness, misconceptions due to blind faith, and limited transportation options. Until recently, patients had to travel to Mumbai (250 kilometres away) for medical treatment. The population in this region is socioeconomically disadvantaged, and accessing medical care in cities includes travel and lodging costs that are largely unaffordable. In order to provide good medical care to the most remote areas, the Shree Vitthalrao Joshi Charities Trust established the B.K.L.Walawalkar Hospital in Ratnagiri district in 1996.
BKL Walawalkar Hospital has established itself as a cutting-edge cancer centre that offers all oncology services under one roof for the benefit of humanity.
Tata Memorial Centre, South – East Asia’s largest oncology centre, recognised the need to do something for cancer patients in the Konkan region. Tata Memorial Centre found an appropriate partner in the form of B.K.L Walawalkar Hospital Diagnostic and Research Centre. B.K.L Walawalkar Hospital possessed all of the necessary background, infrastructure, human resources, social commitment, and trustee support to qualify for a strategic partnership with Tata Memorial Centre for Oncology Care.
