Government Medical College in Meghalaya offers excellent medical education and training to students aspiring to become doctors. Currently, Meghalaya has only one such college, the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS), in Shillong. Established in 2008, NEIGRIHMS serves the healthcare requirements of the whole Northeast area, giving an important option for students wishing to pursue a career in medicine without having to leave their home state. With 50 MBBS seats available each year, NEIGRIHMS provides a rigorous and comprehensive medical education curriculum.
NEIGRIHMS provides students with an ideal learning environment in which to polish their skills and expertise. Furthermore, the college has a well-equipped hospital adjacent to it, which provides vital clinical experience to students from the outset of their medical careers.
While Meghalaya currently has only one government medical college, it is important to recognize that this is a great step forward for healthcare access and medical education in the state. NEIGRIHMS provides an important role in developing competent medical professionals who serve the community, bridging the healthcare infrastructure gap, and meeting the region’s medical needs.
