BDS (Bachelor of Dental Surgery)

BDS (Bachelor of Dental Surgery) is a five-and-a-half-year undergraduate medical course that teaches a wide range of topics related to oral and dental health care, as well as modern medical practice. The course has become the most sought-after medical course to pursue a career in due to its growing popularity among young people. The program is 5.5 years long and includes a mandatory one-year internship in the dental field.

The National Testing Agency’s NEET examination is used to determine admission to various government and dental colleges for the BDS course. The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) conducts and regulates BDS counseling for 15% of BDS seats via AIQ quota, while respective state counseling authorities conduct counseling for the remaining 85% of BDS seats.

Why should you pursue a career in BDS?

  • BDS is a well-known and respected profession. Because BDS is a specialized subject, a BDS graduate will have a variety of career options as oral and dental healthcare has become unavoidable with the rise in oral health issues.
  • The Indian Railway, the Defense Service, and state governments are just a few of the public sector employers who would also hire BDS graduates.
  • BDS specialists are easily employable in the private sector by hospitals, dental practices, pharmaceutical firms, and companies that produce dental products.
  • The students’ potential earnings during a paid internship range from approximately INR 15,000 to 40,000 and rise with their level of expertise and experience.
  • As a graduate starting out in the dental industry, you can expect to earn a base gross salary of Rs. 3,00,000/- to Rs. 6,50,00/- per year at private dental institutions.
